In a blog post on its support website, Acer confirms that Microsoft is working on a fix for that compatibility issue. Specifically, Intel’s CPUs Atom Z2760, Atom Z2520, Atom Z2560, and Atom Z2580 can’t run the Windows 10 Creators Update. Acer explains that even if users somehow manage to upgrade to the Creators Update, they will still experience problems. For example, some text and other OS elements may not show up at all, while users may see random color bars throughout the operating system. In case you have installed the Creators Update on such a device, you should use the Windows 10 recovery options. This will restore your system to the previous build and your OS will work properly.
Hybrid laptops face Creators Update compatibility issue
By far the biggest concern is among owners of hybrid laptops that were sold back in 2013 and 2014. Those 2-in-1 devices run Intel’s Atom Clover Trail processors, which are not compatible with the Creators Update. Back then, these CPUs were classified as compatible with Windows 10, but are not compatible with the Creators Update. Owners of such devices who took advantage of Microsoft’s free upgrade from Windows 8 to Windows 10 are now facing a compatibility issue. For example, ZDNet tried to upgrade to the Creators Update on the HP Envy X2. A message appeared, informing the user that Windows 10 is no longer supported on this device.
