So, why is this not a Patch Tuesday cumulative update? Well, the main reason is because it rolls out a bunch of non-security fixes. It’s also worth noting this is a preview release. Users who don’t install this cumulative update will receive it automatically when Patch Tuesday comes around later this month. In fact, KB4571744 is arriving later than expected. A week ago, Microsoft sent out a huge fix update for Windows 10 20H2, its next major update which is currently in preview. Insiders on the Windows 10 version 2004 branch had to wait a week for a similar rollout. In its release notes, Microsoft points to 72 different quality enhancements and bug fixes across Windows 10 version 2004.

Fixes

As you may expect, because they are closely linked, this update fixes issues that Microsoft also dealt with for Windows 10 20H2 a week ago. Among them is a problem where ActiveX content is not loading properly. Other problems both Win10 versions share include problems with Start menu apps and a blurry sign in screen. Elsewhere, Microsoft fixes apps that have custom content not working, or those with missing fonts. Furthermore, the fixes include for situations where users cannot minimize windows. Another bug was more of a headscratcher and was causing the touch keyboard to randomly close.
